Ball and Gate Valves

Ball Valves: a valve controlling flow by means of a ball pierced with an opening in one direction and fixed to rotate 90 degrees on a spindle at right angles to the opening. Ball valves are essentially adaptations of plug valves, using confined spheres instead of conical plugs. They are used to shut off or permit full flow of media. They are quick opening and easy to repair at low maintenance cost. Ball valves have a low operating torque and provide long, reliable service. They are available in reduced port, full port, floating and trunnion designs. Temperatures are limited by the seating material.

Gate Valves:  a valve with a circular-shaped closing element that fits securely over an opening through which media flows. Gate valves are used where a minimum of pressure drop through the valve is important. They are employed where valves are normally to be wide open or completely closed. They are designed to permit either a straight, full and free flow of fluid, or no flow at all. They are available in wedge, knife and pressure seal design.
